This new residential building at Vienna’s fifth district replaces an old one and is fitted into the Gründerzeit perimeter block development that characterises the quarter close to Wienzeile and Naschmarkt. It comprises 23 units, predominately two or three room flats, plus a spacious penthouse on the roof.

On the front, the unique façade stands out: an eye-catching pattern of highly profiled prefabricated concrete elements. To create a distinct contrast to the grey concrete, the front of the ground floor is completely covered with black tiles. The large window fronts are shielded by lintels in combination with the concrete elements, which create deep shadows.

Privacy is also provided by the balustrades.  Most of the units possess either a balcony or a terrace facing the inner courtyard.

The dominating design idea is to create a neutral backdrop for everyday life. Thus, the range of colours and materials chosen is black, grey, and white, with concrete, lime plaster, wood, and steel.
